The formula
Paint = (wall area − openings) × coats ÷ coverage per litre (or gallon)
Worked example4 × 3 m room, 2.5 m high, 1 door, 1 window, 2 coats at 10 m²/L → 6.3 L.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a litre cover?
Typically 8–12 m² per litre (about 350–400 ft² per gallon) per coat.
Do I need primer?
New plaster, stains or big colour changes usually benefit from primer.
Should I buy extra?
Add 5–10% for touch-ups and uneven surfaces.
